Facilities Management enhances customer experience

Facilities Management

Facilities Management’s skilled workers are using a new tool of the trade to better meet campus customer needs. New technology, applied across three initiatives, is streamlining services and advancing business processes, leading to significant improvements.

FM Mobile is a software platform creating a first-rate client experience. Through the use of a handheld smart device, jobs are prioritized, work is triaged and materials are drop-delivered as close as possible to job sites, allowing for speedier work processes and better client communication. These mobile electronic devices make it easier for the employee to obtain tools and supplies for the job, enhance workflow transparency and enable ongoing communication between technicians and campus clients.

The design and project management dashboard is an online tool that allows clients to track the progress of their projects. Throughout the entire process, the web-based dashboard provides customers with real-time information on the status of their project. This self-service online tracker eliminates the need for frequent status report meetings, saving customers and employees valuable time.

The other latest FM innovation provides an energy boost. Smart Buildings & Smart Labs is a program facilitating energy efficiency. Through the program, which aims to leverage technology to decrease energy use on campus by 50%, an analysis is conducted to determine opportunities for energy improvement or optimization in campus spaces. In addition to energy savings, departments will benefit from better functioning systems.

As Bruins make plans to trade their home workspaces back to campus offices come the fall, Facilities Management looks forward to demonstrating how these advancements help establish an environment conducive for all of the University’s efforts.
