Ask the Administration Leadership Team (ALT)

Senior Architect Pi-Hsuan Kao from the Design and Project Management office at Facilities Management asks,

Does UCLA Administration plan to have a campuswide, systematic approach to address ADA compliance issues for existing buildings, rather than tackling each small construction project individually in a piecemeal manner?

That is a very good question, Pi-Hsuan.  The University handles accessibility issues in multiple ways.

First, the University complies with state building codes which mandate that accessibility be addressed within each construction project, even the small ones, and we’ll continue to do so.

In addition, the Design and Project Management unit of Facilities Management (DPM) is currently wrapping up a systematic campuswide accessibility inventory. DPM architects and student architect interns walked through buildings on campus to evaluate accessibility.  Facilities Management is now in the process of developing an ADA Transition Plan to address accessibility, with which we will coordinate on any upcoming projects.

ADA compliance is a top priority for our campus and we look forward to the implementation of the ADA Transition Plan in the coming years.
