A holiday message from Michael Beck

Happy New Year from all of us at UCLA Administration!

It is hard to believe that 2019 is nearly over and we are on the cusp of 2020.  It seems like just a few years ago we were worried about Y2K. With the close of 2019, the UCLA Capital Campaign will formally conclude after raising more than $5 billion to support research, education, scholarship and physical improvements.

The campus centennial celebrations are reaching the halfway point and will continue through June. There are so many exciting new initiatives occurring across campus that will set the stage as the second century for UCLA begins. Although the significant transformation of existing campus systems and processes may create some anxiety, it is important to recognize that change was a necessary component that allowed UCLA to become the #1 public university in the country and change is inevitable as we continue to evolve our programs and services to ensure that UCLA continues to be an academic and research powerhouse.  UCLA Administration employees provide the critical foundation for that success. They have the talent, enthusiasm and dedication to enable world class research, teaching and public service to thrive.

UCLA’s annual winter closure this year provides a few extra days to relax and recharge. I hope that you make time to breathe deeply, relax, and focus on those who matter to you most. I am grateful for all that you do to make UCLA the best that it can be and look forward to a new year filled with new opportunities for our continued success as a team.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Beck
Administrative Vice Chancellor
