Welcome to the UCLA Operations Ramp-Up Guide

This website was created as a source of general guidance for the return to expanded on-campus operations at UCLA. Managers and administrators should use this guide to build their own ramp-up plan and submit it using the Departmental Ramp-Up Form at least six weeks before employees return to campus. 

Please review the five helpful guideposts below that are relevant to all Bruins. These are followed by specific guidance and informative links divided into four categories. Recommendations from public health officials are changing often and quickly. This website will be updated as decisions are made or new information is available. We encourage you to review it regularly.

FlexWorking Encouraged

FlexWork describes work arrangements that differ from traditional 8-hour, on-site workdays, five days per week. FlexWork arrangements are encouraged wherever possible and practical, and when consistent with job duties and operational needs. To support lower densities in campus buildings and ensure sufficient parking capacity, managers and supervisors should schedule employees so that the number of people on site is relatively consistent across days of the week.

Individuals are strongly encouraged to continue to maintain six feet of distance from others and wear face masks both indoors and outdoors. Face masks are also specifically required for everyone outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained, including when attending outdoor events on the UCLA campus. Individuals are not required to wear a face mask when on campus in their own personal living space, when alone in a closed office, or when eating or drinking in a designated dining area.

Office managers and supervisors should plan for phased levels of employee density throughout the summer and fall. Employees who are able to continue working remotely should plan on doing so through June 30. Depending on departmental needs, 25-50% of the typical employee population for office spaces is a reasonable target from July 1 to August 30. From September 1 to December 31, an anticipated range increase to 50-75% may be reasonable, while some may require return to 100% of regular occupancy.

Commuting by public transit is encouraged as all transit agencies in Southern California are following CDC guidance on sanitizing, ventilation and passenger density. UCLA offers convenient and subsidized transit passes to employees and students. Employees can also form their own vanpool or carpool and get discounted UCLA parking.
